Whether you'd like to paddle competitively or just for fun, dragon boating is a sport that can become a lifestyle.
Welcome to the sport of dragon boat racing!
Unlike other team sports - basketball, baseball, or football - dragon boat paddling is a true "team sport". There are no shining stars. There are no heroes. Everyone must cooperate and work together to get that boat over the finish line in the fastest possible time. No one person can pull the boat to victory, it takes the team working together, to bring out the best in each person.
We are a non-profit amateur sports club that is open to anyone who wants to learn to paddle.
Our primary source of revenue is earnt from Club Membership.
Our second source of revenue is Sponsorship:- ACCA dbRacing extends its gratitude, appreciation and thanks to past and present sponsors & supporters, who have helped make our club a success.
We welcome their continuing support as we build a successful road towards attaining our goals.
Our third source of revenue is helping Corporate Organisations with their dragon boat races. That includes tailoring a training plan, as well as, providing coaching and training for their crews, together with equipment and steerspersons.
There are 2 categories of paddlers for whom we cater for:
Recreational crews include novice, casual and competitive-minded paddlers. Their practice sessions include more technique and less endurance & strength. They may attend as many or as few practices as they wish, and the composition of crews for each race event depends upon who signs up. Sign-ups are on a first come basis. (Please note that race events are not always guaranteed)
Sporting crews include competitive-minded paddlers who are expected to train hard on and off the water. This crew is not comprised of volunteers. Members are selected by the coaching staff based on their performance. They practice together for the entire racing season.
Their practice times are the same as the recreational crews with one difference. Sports crew members are expected to attend all of the scheduled practices. If there are not enough people to enter a competitive sports crew for a racing season, the club will not have one.
Practices for recreational and competitive crews are designed to prepare you for races. We practise all year-around. Weather cancellations are determined on-site, at the designated practice time - either because of lightning, high winds, or rough waters. Cancellations may also occur when no qualified steersperson or boat captains are available.
Recreational and Sports Crew practices are intended to build teamwork. They include sprints, anaerobic, aerobic, strength, and endurance drills. Sports Crews are pushed to perform at their highest possible level.
The race calender is determined by the regional, national, or international races the crew is being prepared for. The Sports Crew will not have a choice in this matter; recreational crews, on the other hand, will be scheduled if enough people have signed up to constitute a crew before the registration deadline (note, club financials may not be sufficient to cover entry into all races and recreational paddlers may be charged extra, per race, if need be).
