ACCA Strategy Workshop - why? Print E-mail
Written by Susan K.
Wednesday, 16 August 2006

Howdy all,

It has come to my attention that I probably have not explained exactly why it is important that anyone who is wanting to be involved in ACCAdbr this season makes an effort to come to the ACCA Strategy Workshop being held this Sunday, 20th August 2006 @ Hewitt Offices, L3 80 George St. 12:30pm start.

What does ACCA stand for? What are the ACCA values? Where and what will ACCA look like as a club come September 2007, what do we want it to look like? Is that picture exciting, relevant ... something that is representative of the ACCA members' views? What is the role of the Committee this season?

As ACCA President for the forthcoming year, I would love to have an answer to these questions.  But it isn't just for me, your input is going to help guide me to make the decisions that are most representative of the club's views.  This session is for you.  So that you can decide whether ACCA is a good club to stay with, ask friends to join, stay to learn to paddle or learn business skills, a good team for your social desires or a competititve team for your desire to WIN or it can be a team that wins and loves to be social... whatever it may be, the club needs to know.

The results from this discussion and workshop will largely influence the decisions of the entire club ranging from coaching, training, racing and membership related decisions throughout this season.

ACCA, we are going to great lengths to make this fun and relevant. To give you plenty of notice and warning.  I would really appreciate a response on the website, whether it be 'yes' or 'no' or 'maybe' or 'I can't make the entire time'.. whatever your thoughts are. With that, I will be better able to manage my own expectations as well as those helping me out.

Please note that if you can't make the entire session, that is COMPLETELY FINE ! It's a fun workshop, no hard and fast rules. Just come and have fun. Bring your friends, partners .. anyone. We've got a spectacular view of the harbour, the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.  It could be your last chance to get that view as Hewitt is moving offices next month!

Where's Lachy? Print E-mail
Written by Susan K.
Saturday, 12 August 2006

So where's Lachy going? We're not going to see our cheery rookie turned "looks relaxed" paddler who I shiver everytime I see him in winter because he is wearing a singlet .. for a whole month!

Here's what Lachy is doing:

Our very own Lachlan McGinty is heading over to Qinghai, CHINA with his church.  Qinghai is a really poor province in the west of China (near Tibet) and Lachy and his church team will be helping out in an orphanage for disabled and/or abandoned children.

The second week of Lachy's stay will be involve teaching English in a primary school.  In this area, the province or area can not afford to pay foreigners to come and teach english so Lachy & his team to the RESCUE !

The third week will be much deserved rest and travel where Lachy will visit friends he made on his last trip or visit to China.

Have an awesome time Lachy ! Stay safe and keep us posted when you can. Laughing

Please REGISTER for 1st race of the Season ! Print E-mail
Written by Susan K.
Thursday, 10 August 2006

Hi ACCA

Please register yourself for the 1st race of the Season ! (click here )

We have a goal to have an OPENS, WOMENS and MIXED crew on the water competing. We're making a statement for the Start of the Season !

It's 250m. It's a 10man boat race.. so if you've never done it before.. why not give it a go. It's not far distance to travel.  You're going to having lots of fun with paddlers from ACCA, dusting the cobwebs, feeling the adrenalin of racing, get an opportunity to suss out what the other competition is looking like at this time of the season... all in all, it's going to be extremely exciting !

So don't miss out !

We need to organise race entry forms, pay for the races etc. We need to look at membership forms, waiver indemnity forms, organise lunch or a bbq, organise the ACCA tents, uniforms etc so we your early registration to give us an indication of numbers and so we can start organising would be extremely HELPFUL.

Thanks ACCA !

SuzyK
