Smash Dragon Boating - CrossFit! - 2008/09/10 09:44 Hi there,

It was good to get back on the water last night, despite the cold. I enjoyed getting the muscles going and regaining the feeling of water against the blade.

How did everyone go with the pace? Personally, I thought it was good to start off with, to concentrate on control of the stroke and focussing on extra reach without worrying about getting overly tired. I hope this continues.

I also hope the pace, power and general intensity lift soon! The burn just wasn't there - yet. I have been using the CrossFit methodology for the last two and a half months with excellent results. The focus is on intensity and load. It's very, very simple yet incredibly effective.

They also publish a wealth of fitness and general health information on their website, for free!

Essential reading:

  • Foundations - Explains what CrossFit is, touching on diet, movement, routines etc.

  • What is Fitness? - Outlines what fitness is and how to improve it.

For people interested, there is a group class at the Cook and Philip centre near St Mary's Cathedral, however you can do the "Work Out of the Day" or WOD by yourself. They're posted every day at CrossFit HQ.

I want to smash dragon boating this season! And this is how I'm doing it and thought I'd share it with you all.

More reading:
  • CrossFit HQ - Go here for all things CrossFit, including the WOD postings.

  • CrossFit Sydney - Info about CrossFit classes in Sydney.

Cheers,

Xav

Re:Smash Dragon Boating - CrossFit! - 2008/09/10 18:15 Hey Xav

Thanks for that post ! That's great reading, especially as I wasn't able to make the training session. Really good to get some good discussion going and tell the team how you found the session etc, what you liked or disliked, how you felt, what's the recovery like etc.

Thanks for sharing ! Like you , I want to see ACCA smash dragonboating this season !

No worries! My only complaint for the session was that it was cold, and the seats harder than I remember them! I won't be there tomorrow, but looking forward to Sunday's session. Hopefully we'll be treated to a sunny day...

Re:Smash Dragon Boating - CrossFit! - 2008/09/11 00:02 It's great to hear feedback from fellow paddlers and what they are doing to better themselves for the season.

From what you've described on Tuesday's session, you've hyped me up to look forward to Thursday's training. I can't wait to get my fitness back...

I think it's a matter of having to do some extra training now. Last season was so competitive! Admittedly, we (Phoenix) had a few probs with number of paddlers etc but even when we did manage to get a full crew together we struggled.

I'm really keen to see the times out at SIRC this year as I think they'll be a cracking pace. With focus on technique and better overall fitness (strength, application of power, coordination, agility etc) we should do well.

Can't make it tonight but hopefully we'll get enough numbers on Sunday for two boats. A bit of friendly competition always helps!
