New Dragon Boat team - 2007/03/24 08:15 Dragon boat racing is new to my country - Trinidad & Tobago in the West Indies. We had our second event ever last Sunday in which my team Oar Struck came in third out of 26 teams. We were an all female team as the event was one to raise awareness of Breast Cancer. I am addicted to this sport and would like to know if there are any tips or advice that anyone can pass on to a new team with regard to uniforms, training, tips on winning, technique. My team would greatly appreciate it.

Re:Trinidad & Tobago - 2007/04/06 11:51 Hi Alicia ('AKA')

Found you! Well, your team anyway. Wasn't easy but I eventually did.

Are you in this picture?

Wow! Amazing, that we're 1000's of kilometres apart and yet we're so close in many ways.

Can't say I'd ever imagined that we'd get a response from Trinidad & Tobago... and to be honest I thought this was a practical joke... but it's not and I'm glad see you visiting our website. How did you find us?

Congratulations on coming second, by the way. Great achievement! and yes, it can be a very addictive sport... just ask many of our long term paddlers.

You may or may not be aware but Australia also has many teams of breast cancer survivors who paddle Dragon Boats to raise awareness and to prove that there's lots of good living to do despite a diagnosis of breast cancer. They race under the banner of Dragons Abreast Australia.

Please feel free to contact them via their website if you so wish.

As for tips or advice... where do we begin... we'll keep this tread alive as long as you need it.

We're in preparation mode for the Australian National Championships at the moment so I don't have time to write... we'll write more soon. In the meantime, please continue to browse our website as there's plenty of helpful information floating about.

Regards,
Evan (sweep & part time web master).
