Re:IDBF 8th World Championships - 2007/09/20 22:08
This information from a Canadian source:
The first day is done, and Canada was very successful. Results included:
Gold in senior men's 1,000 Gold and bronze in senior women's 1,000 Gold in grand dragon men's 1,000 Silver in grand dragon mixed 2,000 Gold in premiere women's 1,000 (a great race) 5th in premiere men's 1,000 Silver and bronze in junior mixed 2,000 Gold and silver in senior mixed 2,000 Silver in premiere mixed 2,000 (well done, FCRCC)
I think we also got a bronze in junior men's 1,000.
USA won the premiere men's 1,000, followed by GB and Phillipines.
Additional comments:
There are some strong crews here, but the depth of the field (outside the premier class) is disappointing. The Germans were well back in the senior races today. It was great to see Australia get silver in the senior open 1,000... I think this is one of their first medals at the worlds.
The OHDBC women won their race quite handily (about a boat length over 2nd). The premier women were 2nd in their 1,000 m. heat to a very fast stroking Chinese crew, but came back with a great win in the final.
Macau surprised with a win in the mixed premier 2,000, after finishing well back in the 1,000 men's. Macau was the only crew to finish with a 2 km time faster than Jim's senior mixed crew.
