Wyong River Regatta - 2007/01/13 23:18 The usual thank you goes out to all the organisers! Couldn't have done it without you!

A big THANK YOU also goes out to Nicky and family. It's always a treat to assist you with the baby/child sitting. Fair trade, don't you think?

Congratulations to Vicky and Roy for sweeping their first races! They are no longer "Sweep Virgins!" To Vicky, after observing you swerve to avoid a near miss, you are more than fully qualified. Glad you were wearing your glasses *grin*.

Crew, your thoughts? Your experiences! Please share them with the rest of the team.

Thanks.
Evan.

Re:Wyong River Regatta - 2007/01/14 09:33 Yes, a big thank you to all those who played a part in making the Tacoma Races a success for ACCA.

Nicky & family (including mum and dad) - a big thank you for the time and effort you put in preparing for this event. Collating all the information from paddlers re next of kin, phone numbers, drivers etc. Researching cost of staying overnight. All the food and drinks today.

Magoo - again for your professionalism and enthusiasm in leading the team out on the water. The consistent warm ups and debriefs. The experience to know what we should be focsuing on in each heat and furthermore, guiding us to display the flexibility and discipline we need as a crew to paddle in the different weather and tide conditions.

Evan, Vicki, Roy & Siv - without sweeps, we can not enter a crew. You all did a fantastic job especially in the windy conditions. Siv- great job as a drummer, improving with every race. Thanks for stepping up to the job. It's great to see.

All the paddlers - thank you. Firstly for signing up and registering for the race. Without your commitment, many people who train hard every week might not necessarily get to race without each others commitment to race. That's the nature and of dragonboat racing. It's very much a team sport that requires reliance on all the other members of your crew and club.

Thank you to all those who provided feedback during the day, whether it be to do with the actual races or just other parts of the sport. Thank you.

Thank you to Brad, Tony & Paul for organising the social dinner @ The Ranch. For bringing up the bacon & eggs and also all the tents, paddles, gear etc. Much appreciated. Thank you.

A special thank you to all those drivers who drove people up to the Regatta. Your efforts and generosity is much appreciated.

To Vicki for again organising and ensuring everyone has race tags for race day.

Last but not least, to everyone who worked together so co-operatively in picking the spot, setting up the tents, taking it back down, packing it up etc.

THANK YOU

SuzyK

Wyong/Tacoma - Great racing ACCA - 2007/01/14 10:04 ACCA

What superb racing !

Mixed Crew - the finals.. if you enjoyed that , you're going to LOVE Chinese New Year, States and National Titles. This is what the racing will be like. So close, so much heart, so much fury, adrenalin pumping and the feeling of absolutely nothing MORE to give !!

ACCA - a reminder of how far we have come as a crew. How we have mentally become stronger as a crew. Wyong was not a 250m race, it was 400m and we stuck to Sloths boat the entire way! and pushed them right over the finish line. No doubt the training we have done over Winter season and the base training we have done throughout, has been so beneficial. It's great to see the effort in training, result in real tangibles on race day! Superb.

As we finished the Mixed A finals race and we were paddling back, I thought to myself "it's great to see it all coming together now. All that training, ability to field such a competitive Mixed crew. ACCA has yet to peak and we're still on the way up".

However, to see how close a 400m Mixed A final is in the last DBNSW Points Race before CNY, States & Nationals, made me realise that it's really about the crew that manages to hold it together the most. There are lots of good crews out there, training just as hard as us if not more.

We need to train SMARTER, better quality (not necessarily quantity) then the other crews.

Mental fitness is so important.

Who can control the rate and strokes to maximise the acceleration over the finish line - as a crew, not just as strokes/pacers ?

If you have ever seen the photo finishes of Chinese New Year or State Titles, it's really only a dragons' whisker. It's like swimming, who manages to get the stroke in at the right time.. in dragonboat , who gets the surge at the right time.

THe best part of the season is only just around the corner, stay tuned for what ACCA has in store for you !

Re:Wyong/Tacoma - Great racing ACCA - 2007/01/14 10:53 A heart felt congratulations to everyone paddling at Tacoma yesterday. It was an awesome effort by all.

Racing in a Mixed crew and consistently coming first in each of our mixed heats just shows to all that we've got what it takes to bring it home for the big races coming up.

Congrats to all involved in the opens crew as well and also giving me the chance to sweep one of them. You guys have POWER. Responded well for the MORE calls as well. Top effort.

Now I wonder if we broke our target time of sub 1:46min... It sure felt like we did.

So let's all make a consistent effort to come to training and RSVP to race events. Make a commitment to the team from now till the end of the season.

I'm so FIREed up to paddle with you guys. A team of CHAMPIONS we are!!!

Re:Wyong/Tacoma - Great racing ACCA - 2007/01/14 11:43 Yeah Great day out everyone.

Great to see that so many people backed up for dinner at the Ranch (about 20 if you include Roy, but we won't so there was about 19) . Whilst most of the drinking responsibilities fell on to my lone sunburnt shoulders, it was still fantastic to see the crew coming together off the water to strengthen the bonds made on the water.

Lets look forward to CNY after race celeberations - surely the pinnacle of the race drinking calendar.

My head is killing me.

Brad.
