Preparing for water training!
Here are some useful tips to get you prepared: 15 minute - Team Stretch Prior to entering the boat, the team stretches together. Performing dragon boat specific stretches helps to prepare your body for the exercise, and helps to prevent injury. 1 hour Water Practice The teams board their dragon boats sharply on the hour dont be late. The coaches will have set the lineup, and let everyone know where to sit on the boat. On the water, the coaches will conduct drills to improve our technique and practice key elements of the race. 15 minute Team Stretch and Announcements Your body will appreciate the post-workout stretch especially the day after. We also use this time to provide any team updates or make any announcements. Clothing Wearing the right clothing is important for an enjoyable dragon boat experience. In the cooler months, waterproof outer layers and warm inner layers are essential. In summer, dry fit tops will keep you cool and dry. Make no mistake you will get wet during practice! Other items to bring: - Towel - Change of clothing - Sunglasses - Sunscreen - Bottle of water |

How to join |
|
- Ever been in a boat with 20 of your best friends?
- A competitive minded athlete looking to master a new and challenging sport?
- A beginner but keen to learn?
- Looking for a way to relieve stress in an active, fulfilling way?
The ACCA dbRacing Team welcomes new members!
The sport of dragon boat racing is accessible to just about everyone, all age groups, ethnic backgrounds, levels of ability and athletic needs. Whether you are looking for fitness, competition, socialization or just want to spend time outdoors in a meaningful way, we truly believe that dragon boat racing is a viable option for everyone.
You do not need to have any paddling experience. The important thing to have is a competitive spirit and the ability to work together as a team. Enthusiasm preferred over paddling experience, though we would not discredit you if you had both.
Before you begin, it is vitally important to ensure that it is safe for you to begin an exercise programme. Complete the safety check list below and if you answer YES to one or more questions – or alternatively if you are at all concerned about starting training – then make an appointment with your doctor for a check-up before you start.

If you're interested in joining our club, you are always welcome to join us on one of our training sessions, your first 3 sessions are free. We supply all the equipment you need to get started in dragon boating: boats, paddles, and personal floatation devices (PFDs), in addition to experienced steerers and coaches. At the end of the third session, please let us know that you want to join and we will start the process. When you fill out a few forms and pay your team membership, you will be given information about online sign-ups for practice.
We typically practise 3 times a week during the 'in-season' (early Oct to mid Apr) and newcomers are welcome to join the team at any time but we suggest that your first few sessions be on a Sunday. This allows us to spend a bit more time with you to take you through the paddling technique and safety briefing. Make sure you contact us for a confirmed training schedule and for more recruitment details.
